The County of Benton was created in 1836 from Washington County, which was from created in 1828 from Crawford County, Crawford from Pulaski in 1820, and Pulaski from Arkansas an Original County in 1813.     Major indian tribes of the area were the Quapaw, also known as the Akansa or Arkansas, the Osage, and the Caddo.  The area was origanally opened to American settlers by the Spanish in 1783.  Arkansas Territory was formed in 1819 from Missori Territory in 1812 with settlers from Virginia, the Carolinas, Tennessee, Mississippi, or Missouri.  The Arkansas Territority included present day Oklahoma until June 15 1836, when Arkansas became a State.  The county seat of Benton is Bentonville, AR.
