Introduction

The Totty Roots Family Records and document pages is a collection of our TOTTY Roots mailing list records and research by the TOTTY Roots Research Group.   If you have any records to would like to share with us, please contact our TOTTY Roots Administrator and Web Page Editor.     We at TOTTY Roots are dedicated to protecting the rights and privacy of our living relatives.  We encourage all involved in Genealogy Research to omit Vital information on any of our family members who are still LIVING, UNLESS you have their express and or written permisson.  We need to protect our descendants, while we search for our ancestors.    PLEASE do your part to protect and respect the privacy of everyone when placing information on the web.

The County of Monroe was createdin 1831 from Ralls County.  Ralls was created from Pike County in 1820, and Pike from St. Charles County in 1818.  St. Charles Co., was an original district created in 1812.   The County seat is located in St. Paris, MO.

       Census Records

1860  Census of  Monroe County, MO.
        George W. Webb    30    VA
        Susan S.                  29    KY
        Mary E.                     8    KY
        Lesley M.                  6    KY
        George                      3    KY
        John H.                     1   KY
Note: Carolyn Welch states that according to Alma Totty's 'Totty Ties' book the National Archive records have George W. Webb & George W. Welch in the same file, fighting for the same Captain, the same Cavalry unit in Missouri after having enlisted in Monroe Co, MO.  There is no George W. Welch listed, but see above.    Carolyn adds additionally that the above George age 3 KY, "is the right age for our George W. Welch, Jr.".  Welch/Webb if you look at the old time writing appear very similar.  Jr. was orphaned by the Civil War and our lineage ends there.  Jr was born between 1855 and 1858, depending on which record you believe.  Any suggestions for solving our 'unsolvable' mystery are always GREATLY appreciated.  I have
been beating my head on this steel door for over 25 years!

The only difference is that of the State of birth, could he have been born in Kentucky rather than Missouri as the family tradition states?  George W. Welch was married to Lillie TOTTY in Montague County, Texas, later moving to Jefferson County, Oklahoma in 1910 and back to Gray County, Texas for the 1920 Census.
