Introduction

The County of James Citty County was created in 1634 as an Original Shire of Virginia. The county seat is located in Williamsburg, VA. Our early TOTTY's ancestors were found in James City, Charles City, Henrico and Chesterfield counties.

Henry Browne, N. upon the maine river, S. into the maine woods & W. upon Benjamine HARRISONS marked trees being upon the W. side of Sunken marsh Cr. Trans. of 42 pers: John FLUDD, Joh. Connaway, Morgan WELCH, Roger Horner, Rich. Thornbury, Thomas WOOD, Jone Granley, Wm. WOOD, Jon. Lawrence, Jon. COLE, Jon. Rubue, Jon. Auerine(Averine ?), Jon. Cooper, Joseph MARSH, Geo. BELL, Geo. CROSSLAND, Willi. Arnold, Wm. Sarsonn, David HAYES, Rich. Hinde, Elizabeth Browne, Rich. Bruse, Ann Rightsome, Thomas TOOLYE, [TOLLY/TOTTY], Jon. White, Barth. Horton, Wm. EAST, Jon. Cooke, Rich. Hewes, Dorothy Bradly, Margt. his wife, Frances FINCH her daughter, John FLUDD, Junr. John Right, Fr. SHELTON, Wm. GAGE, Geo. Hilliard, Thomas Bramston, John Buckworth, Geo. WATKINS.
Notes: According to the "Genealogy of the Welsh and Hyatt Families", the widow of Samuel HOWARD, Catherine Warner Howard married 2nd to Thomas TOLLY ca 1648. This family was later found mentioned in Anne Arundel County, MD. Thomas TOLLY/TOTTY may likely be the same as Thomas TOLLIE who arrived in Virginia in 1635 June 7th age 17 from England on the ship Thomas and John. Notice the familiar surnames later of Henrico Co., VA and later with the numerous TOTTY descendents. The CROSSLAND/CROSSLIN, WOOD, WATKINS, WELCH, ARNOLD & GAGE surname are associated families with our TOTTY descendant's.
