The County of Sumner County was created in 1786 from Davidson County, Davidson County from Washington County in 1783 which covered the present State.  The county seat is located in Lebanon, TN.   The State of Tennessee was created in 1796..
 
 

1797  February 14th  LAND WARRANT   [Tennessee Genealogical Records Records of Early Settlers From State & County Archives by Edythe Rucker Whitley ©1980 Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc. Baltimore MD]   No. 4709 Jonas TOLLEY, private in the N. C. Cont. Line; 640 acres; issued 14 Feb. 1797.  The warrant was endorsed to Sterling Brewer on 19 Feb. 1797, with Jesse Sharp and Joseph Maroom as witnesses.  The land was in Sumner Co., Tenn., Mero District, located on the waters of White Oak Creek and Indian Creek.  Jonas TALLEY or TOLLEY served in the N.C. Cont. Line during the Rev. War and was discharged at the end of the war.   Certified 14 July 1796 by G. Bradley, Capt., and John Medearis, Capt.



1797  February 14th  LAND WARRANT [Tennessee Genealogical Records Records of Early Settlers From State & County Archives by Edythe Rucker Whitley ©1980 Genealogical Pubslishing Co., Inc. Baltimore MD]     No. 4710.  Thomas TOLLEY or TALLEY, a private; 640 acres for services in the N.C. Cont. Line:  issued 14 Feb. 1797.  The warrant was assigned to Sterling Brewer, with Joseph Marcom and Jesse Sharp as witnesses.  G. BRADLEY, Capt., and John Medearis Capt., certified that Thomas TALLY OR TOLLY served as a soldier in the N. C. Cont. Line during the war.  The land
was located in Sumner Co., Tenn., on Mero Dist., on the eastern branch of Stones. River.

Notes: BTM] This is likely John PARKER husband of Mary White PARKER, with son's Benjamin F. W. and Joseph Allen PARKER as witnesses along with Washington Perkins.   John and his family were later found in Limestone County Texas, where the famous Indian attack at Fort Parker occurred on May 19, 1836.   John was killed along with his son Silas Mercer PARKER and his daughter in law Lucinda (Duty) PARKER, parents of Cynthia Ann PARKER who was abducted by the Indians at the age of 9 years.  She later married Peta Nocona and eventually had two sons, Chief Quanah Parker and Pecos, and a daughter, Topsannah.
John PARKER was the son of Nathaniel and Sarah Ann (Clayton) PARKER who had other childredn among whom was Daniel PARKER married to Mary Ann (Easley) PARKER.  Their daughter Susannah PARKER born June 26 1784 in Georgia, was married to widower David SPRADLING in Tennessee ca 1820-1821.  It has long been a tradition of the TOTTY families that we were kin to Cynthia Ann PARKER.
Susannah PARKER (Spencer) SPRADLING was the parents of Rhoda May SPRADLING TOTTY my 3rd great grandmother who wrote the diaries I am transcribing for the TOTTY families.

Baltimore 1978, -Will Book 2), page 42,43  Will of Stephen CANTRELL  Wife Mary her widowhood, plantation etc.  Executor Stephen CANTRELL, Jr.William CANTRILL, William Edwards son of Nathan Edwards and Zionlow CANTRILL.   To son Stephen CANTRILL, Jr. heirs, land in Wilson Co. on Cumberland River 120 acres patented No. 4307 and 4308.  also 1/3 lot No. 73 in Nashville, Davidson Co., etc., Daughter Sarah WILLIS wife of Caleb WILLIS, 150 ares patent I name of William BOWEN of North side Cumberland River in Sumner Co. and adjoining Jesse Garrett, etc., and deeds and transfer made to me by heirs of David CARSON and adjoining tract heretofore conveyed to said Sarah WILLIS on West of Mose River, etc.  To children of my son Ota CANTRELL tract land 264 acres east fork Stone River commonly known as Andrews Branch in Rutherford Co.  My son William CANTRELL and that part of Wilkerson’s tract land that lies west and south of Station Camp Creek in Sumner Co. and lot of town of Gallatin, Sumner Co. known by Lot No. 9.  To son Zebulon CANTRILL and equal division with his brother Darly H. CANTRILL of 1574 ares in five different tracts North side of Cumberland River opposite mouth of Oly (Obey) River in Jackson Co. and 1/3 part of lot No. 73 in Nashville, Davidson Co.  To my daughter Mary Edwards wife of William Edwards son of Nathan Edwards her heirs to have one half of Lot No. 9 in Gallatin, Sumner Co. and land on fork of Station Camp.  Other lands on Obey River in Jackson Co. and lot 73 in Nashville.  To son James Madison Monroe CANTRILL 411 acres land Rutherford Co. on Stewart Creek and 640 acres trat granted by North Carolina being where my son Oto now lives.  My son George Clinton CANTRILL one half of home plantation in Madison Creek, Sumner Co.  Sons James and George not of age.  Dec. 5, 1823 proved,   addition to will dated 26 Aug. 1824.  Annexed is “should wife Mary marry she to have one horse and cattle, bed and furniture and surrender rest, Tract land 150 acres granted to tract tofore bequeathed to daughter Sarah WILLIS including house whereon  Mathew Rice lived”.   And Sarah to have place on which Wm. Edwards formerly lived on Station Camp.  7 Jan. 1826.  Codicil 6 April 1826.   A law suit against Moly Mary N. BOWEN and Samuel A. BROWN Circuit Court Sumner Co. commenced by me against David S. WILLIS.  Codicil.  I loaned $1000 to Wm. EDWARDS further mention of land on Station Camp Creek.  Nov. 11, 1826.  Proved Feb. 1827.

KNOW ALL MEN, That we Thomas COMBS and John ANDERSON of the county of Sumner and State of Tennesse, are held and firmly bound unto the GOVERNOR of the said State, for the time being, or his successors in office, in the penal sum of Twelve Hundred and Fifty Dollars, to be void on condition that there be no lawful objection why Thomas COMBS and Anna ANDERSON may not be joined together as husband and wife, in the holy estate of Matrimony.  Witness our hands and seals this 30th day of May A.D. 1829.
