The County of Scott was created in 1821 from New Madrid; New Madrid was created in 1812 as an Original County of Missouri State  which was created from Missouri Territority in 1812.  Missouri Territority was created as part of the Territority of Louisiana in 1805 after the Louisiana Purchase of 1803.   The county seat is located in Benton, MO.

1885 August 10th Court Record   [Estate inventory filed 10 August 1885, Scott County, Missouri.]
Administrator Benjamin B. Gaither on 17 June 1884.
     In the matter of Wm. H. Totty's estate Benj. B. Gaither says that, to the best of his knowledge and belief, the names of the heirs of the said Wm. Totty, deceased, and their places of residence, are respectively as follows: Sarah S. Totty (widow), who resides in the County of Scott in the State of Missouri; Guse Leonidas Totty, who resides in the County of Scott in the State of Missouri; William C. Totty, Scott County, Missouri; Josephine Totty, Scott County, Missouri; Levicy Totty, Scott County, Missouri; Louis P. Totty, Scott County, Missouri; Benj. Totty, Scott County, Missouri; Tennessee A. Parkes, Scott County, Missouri.
      That the said Wm. Totty died without a will; that he will make a perfect inventory of, and faithfully administer all the estate of the deceased, and pay the debts as far as the assets will extend and the law direct, and account for and pay all assets which shall come to his possession or knowledge.

MISSOURIAN
MRS LOU ROCHELL CALLED TO BEYOND
Tuberculosis Takes South Hanover Resident
Mrs. Lou ROCHELLE, wife of Charles ROCHELLE, a employee of the Cape B. & Ice Company, died at the family home, 412 South Hanover street, at 1 a.m. today, following an illness with tuberculosis.  While she had been in poor health for a number of months she had been bedfast for only two weeks.
Mrs. ROCHELLE was 47 years and 19 days old and leaves, besides her husband, two daughters Thelma 18, and Mildred 16; her mother, Mrs. S. S. TOTTY of Rockview; four brothers and one sister.
Members of the family who came here today following receipt of the death notice are:  Mrs. TOTTY, Louis ROCHELLE of Memphis, Tenn. and Mr. and Mrs. Fred  Crist of Cairo, Ill.  Several members of the family could not be located so will not come for the funeral.
Final arrangements for the funeral had not been completed this afternoon, but services will probably be held at the family home at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, with interment in Lorimier cemetery.

TWO FUNERALS IN COMMERCE

Mrs. Sarah TOTTY was born Dec. 23, 1844, and died April 7, 1931, at the age of eight-six years, three months and fifteen days.  She lived with her son Louis TOTTY and family at Commerce.  Mrs. TOTTY lived in the Macedonia community for years, coming from Hickman county, Tennessee, while a small girl.  She was married to William TOTTY before coming here.  Ten children were born to the union.  Five are now living, four boys and one girl.  Rev. Hartz preached the funeral at the Methodist church.  Both the dead were buried at the Commerce cemetery.

COMMERCE ---  Louis P. TOTTY, 91 years old, a retired farmer here, died Friday night at 9 in a Cape Girardeau hospital.  He had been a patient there the past four days.
Mr. TOTTY, born Sept. 7, 1877 near Commerce, married the former Miss Margaret Herzon on Jan. 9, 1900.  She died Nov. 23, 1956.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Pearl Gannema of Comemrce, with whom he made his home; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandaughter.
Mr. TOTTY was a member of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church here.   The body is at Bisplinghoff Funeral Home in Ilmo where arrangements are incomplete.

EDWARD B. TOTTY, Sr.
Special to the Missourian 9-62.
COMMERCE-Edward B. TOTTY, 81 years old died at a Sikeston nursing home Saturday where he had been admitted one week ago.  He was born July 4, 1881, son of Mr. amd Mrs. Wm. TOTTY.
   He married Miss Elizabeth HOLMES Dec 7, 1906, who preceded him in death.   The family lived in Rockview for 33 years before returning to Commerce.  He was a retired carpenter.  He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. John (Bernice) WISE of Commerce, Mrs. Wm. (Avis) WALKER of Flint, Mich. and Mrs Carl (Ruby Grace) QUANDT of St. Louis; two sons, Edward and Audrey TOTTY of East St. Louis; one brother Louis TOTTY of Commerce; 22 grand-children and 16 great grandchildren.
   Funeral Services were held this afternoon in the Methodist Church in Commerce with the Rev. L. E. Butler of Chaffee officiating.
Burial was in a Cemetery near Rockview.   Bisplinghoff Funeral home directed arrangements.

Pearl M. Granneman
SCOTT CITY ---- Pearl Marie Granneman, 85, of Scott City, died Monday, Jan. 17, 1994, at Cape Girardeau Nursing Center.
She was born Nov. 4, 1908, at Commerce, daughter of Louis and Margaret Herzog TOTTY.
Granneman had been a riverboat cook and housekeeper with Mechling Barge Line.  She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Commerce, and former member of Order of Eastern Star in Cape Girardeau.
Survivors include a son, Robert Wills; a daughter, _________; four grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.  Pastor Eloise Marx will officiate, with burial in Oakdale Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday.

SCOTT CITY, Mo. ---Funeral for Fern Berniece Wise of Scott City will be held at 1 p.m.  Thursday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.  The Rev. Larry Lawman will officiate.  Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery at Commerce, Mo.
Friends may call at the chapel from 5-8 p.m. today.
Wise, 88 died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Services of Cape Girardeau.
She was born March 18, 1912, at Rockview, Mo., daughter of Edward B. and Elizabeth Holmes TOTTY.  She and J. B. "Dick" Wise were married Dec. 6, 1931.  He died March 14, 1990.
Wise was a member of St. Paul Methodist Church and Eastern Star Marlem Chapter in Commerce and Commerce Better Community Club.
Survivors include two daughters__________ and __________ of Scott City: a brother _______ of Collinsville, Ill.  13 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, a brother and two sisters.

2001 July 22nd  Newspaper Obituary [Transcribed by TOTTY researcher Sandra Grantham. Name, date of newspaper not given]  Robert L. WILLS, Sr.
Robert L Wills Sr. of Tallahassee, Fl. died Sunday, July 22, 2001. He was born on Sept. 7, 1926 in Commerce Mo. A memorial service will be held at 11:am at Fellowship Presbyterian Church in Tallahassee. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, two sons, a sister, three grandchildren and a great grandchild.
