The entire area of Kentucky was claimed by Virginia as part of Augusta County and long before white men had explored Kentucky. In 1750 Thomas Walker explored the eastern part, and in 1767 Daniel Boone followed in his exploration of Kentucky also and settled Boonsboro in 1775. In 1776 the Kentucky area was taken away form Fincastle County, Virginia and became Kentucky County, Virginia. In 1780 Kentucky County was divided into three counties called Fayette, Jefferson and Lincol, which were later divided into nince counties with a decade. Earyl settlers came from Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Virginia. Kentucky became a State on June 1, 1792.
